B&Q Reopens in Altrincham with New Store at Retail Park

B&Q is Back in Altrincham with a Brand-New Store

After closing its old store on Atlantic Street in 2016, B&Q has returned to Altrincham with a brand-new location. The new store is located on George Richards Way in Altrincham Retail Park, taking over the unit that used to be Homebase.

This reopening is part of B&Q’s plan to expand across the UK by taking over several former Homebase stores. Homebase went into administration in January 2025, which put around 2,000 jobs at risk across 74 stores. B&Q’s Altrincham branch is the first of eight to open under this plan.

A Big Store with Lots to Offer

The new B&Q store is large, covering 41,000 square feet. It offers over 16,000 products for people working on home improvements. Shoppers can find items for:

  • Painting and decorating
  • Plumbing
  • Building work
  • Lighting
  • Tools and hardware
  • Kitchen and bathroom design

The store also includes a large garden centre where you can buy outdoor plants, gardening tools, soil, compost, and other supplies for the garden.

New Jobs for the Local Community

B&Q’s return has created 38 new jobs in Altrincham. Nineteen of the new staff members used to work at Homebase and have now joined the B&Q team. The other 19 are newly hired, offering fresh job opportunities for local people.

B&Q has said it values experience and local knowledge, which is why it was happy to keep many of the former Homebase staff.

Services for Trade Professionals and DIY Enthusiasts

B&Q has made sure that the new store is useful not just for regular shoppers, but also for builders, decorators, and other professionals. Inside the store is a TradePoint counter, which is specially set up for trade customers.

Other services at the store include:

  • Timber cutting to size
  • Valspar paint mixing to get the exact colour you want
  • A fast click-and-collect service that lets customers collect items in as little as 15 minutes
  • Next-day collection for thousands more products not held in store

These services are designed to make shopping faster and easier for everyone.

Supporting the Local Community

Before the store officially opened, B&Q staff got involved in helping a local charity, The Counselling & Family Centre. The team spent time improving the charity’s garden and allotment space. They planted new flowers, painted a shed, put up a new shed, and added paving to make the area more accessible.

This work shows B&Q’s commitment to being part of the local community and giving back where it can.

Why B&Q’s Return Matters to Altrincham

B&Q’s closure in 2016 left a gap in the local retail scene. After the Atlantic Street store shut down, many people in the area had to travel elsewhere for DIY supplies. In 2020, Aldi moved into that old B&Q site, leaving no similar DIY option in town.

The new B&Q store brings back a trusted name in home improvement to Altrincham and offers everything from paint to power tools under one roof.

When and Where to Visit

The new B&Q store is now open seven days a week and is easy to find at:

Altrincham Retail Park, George Richards Way, WA14 5GR

Shoppers can visit any day of the week to get tools, materials, plants, and advice for home and garden projects.

Conclusion

B&Q’s return to Altrincham is great news for local shoppers, workers, and businesses. The new store brings a wide range of useful products and services, offers jobs to local people, and supports the community. Whether you are a trade professional, a first-time DIYer, or someone just looking to improve your garden, the new B&Q store has something for you.
